Scanning tips

• The VIN is on the windshield plate (driver's side, from outside) and on the driver's door frame, often with a barcode.
• Hold steady a hand's length away. In a dim garage, turn on the light in the scanner.
• Can't get a read? Tap "Type VIN". It's 17 characters and never uses I, O or Q.
